2. General Information on Data Processing

2.1 Principle: Privacy by Design

The 64things app was developed according to the “Privacy by Design” principle. Your privacy and the security of your data are our highest priority. All data you enter is stored exclusively locally on your device.

2.2 No Data Transmission to Servers

Important: The app does not transmit any data to external servers, cloud services or third parties. There is no communication with our or any other servers. We have no access to your data and cannot view, analyse or process it.

3. What Data Is Processed?

The app allows you to record and store the following information locally:

Item information: name, description, category, brand, colour, quantity, price
Photos: optionally, you can take photos of your items or add them from your photo library
Categories: categories you create or use for organisation
Decisions: your decisions on which items you want to keep or discard
Settings: your app settings such as language and currency

All of this data is stored exclusively locally on your iPhone/iPad.

4. Purpose of Data Processing

Your data is processed solely for the purpose of:

organising and managing your personal belongings
supporting decisions about keeping or discarding items
providing an overview of your possessions and their total value
enabling the use of the app in accordance with its features

5. Permissions

5.1 Camera Access

The app requires access to your device camera in order to:

take photos of your items directly in the app
store these photos locally with your items

You can revoke this permission at any time in the iOS settings.

5.2 Photo Library Access

The app requires access to your photo library in order to:

attach existing photos from your library to items
store these photos locally in the app

You can revoke this permission at any time in the iOS settings.

5.3 Storage of Photos

All photos you add or take are:

stored in a compressed and optimised form
saved exclusively locally in the app database on your device
not stored in your iOS photo library (unless you export them manually)
automatically deleted when you delete the associated item

6. Data Storage and Security

6.1 Local Storage

All data is stored using SwiftData in a local database on your device. This database is protected by the iOS operating system and is only accessible to the 64things app.

6.2 No Cloud Synchronisation

The app does not use iCloud or any other cloud synchronisation services. Your data remains exclusively on your device.

6.3 Device Security

The security of your data depends on the security of your device:

use device lock (Face ID, Touch ID, passcode)
keep your iOS operating system up to date
in case of device loss, your data is protected by iOS device encryption

7. Export and Import of Data

7.1 Export Function

You can back up all your data at any time using the export function in the app:

the data is stored in a JSON file
this file contains all your items, categories, decisions, settings and photos (Base64 encoded)
you decide yourself where to store this file (locally on the device, iCloud Drive, other cloud services)
storage outside the app is subject to the privacy policies of the storage provider you choose

7.2 Import Function

You can import previously exported data at any time:

the data is read from the JSON file you select
when importing, all existing data in the app is overwritten
the import is carried out locally, without transmitting data to external servers

Important: If you store your backup file in cloud services (iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.), the privacy policies of the respective provider apply to this storage.

8. Disclosure of Data to Third Parties

Your data is not shared with third parties.

The app contains:

no tracking tools
no analytics tools
no advertising networks
no social media integrations
no third-party services

9. Storage Period

Your data is stored:

as long as the app is installed on your device
until you delete individual data or the entire app
until you delete the app’s data in the iOS settings

When you uninstall the app, all locally stored data is automatically removed from the device.

10. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

10.1 Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR)

As all data is stored exclusively locally on your device, you have full access to all stored data directly in the app at any time.

10.2 Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)

You can edit and correct all your data in the app at any time.

10.3 Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)

You can:

delete individual items or categories in the app
delete the entire database via the reset function in the settings
uninstall the app, which deletes all data

10.4 Right to Data Portability (Art. 20 GDPR)

You can export your data at any time via the export function in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format (JSON) and transfer it to other devices or services.

10.5 Right to Object (Art. 21 GDPR)

As data processing takes place exclusively locally on your device and you have full control over your data, you can stop data processing at any time by deleting the data or uninstalling the app.

11. Children

The app is intended for users aged 13 and over. Parents or guardians should supervise use by younger children. As no data is transmitted to us, we do not process any personal data of minors.

12. App Store / Apple

12.1 Download and Installation

The app is distributed via the Apple App Store. For download, installation and processing of in-app purchases (if any), the privacy policies of Apple Inc. apply.

12.2 TestFlight (Beta Testing)

If you participate in our beta testing programme via TestFlight, basic usage data (crash reports, device information) is transmitted to Apple. This data processing is subject to Apple’s privacy policies.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy to reflect changes in the legal framework or in the app’s features.
